Bardan says : "As none of the clerics in Baldur's Gate have a wisdom higher than 16, Branwen is about as good as you're going to get in terms of stats. Lacking in strength, but with a decent dexterity and constitution, she will serve you adequately once you free her from her stony prison. Her little adventure ties in with the main storyline, which is a nice touch. It gives a bit of depth to a NPC - an aspect that was vastly improved upon in general in Shadows of Amn.
Her Spiritual Hammer comes in handy early on in the game, when magical weapons are at their rarest, but gets a little lost at higher levels. Her alignment prevents any conflicts with other NPCs, and she will stay with you through pretty much anything as long as you don't let your reputation get into the 'despised' zone. She can be found early, equipped well, and will serve as a good and much-needed healer for most parties. One warning - if you reject her offer to join the first time she makes it, she will leave forever, and become unrecruitable."
