Bardan says : "One of my favourite characters, Kivan is second only to Coran in the sniper stakes. A stealthy, strong fighter type is always appreciated, and Kivan brings this to the table, and more. Buff him up with plate mail and use him as a tank, or give him some good magical leather armour and use him as an assassin. You won't get the thief backstab, but with 2 proficiency points in large swords, you'll do alot of damage with that first strike or two.
As I said, you could also use his skills as an Archer to good effect. Pair him with Coran for a hail of deadly missile fire that few enemies stand a hope of withstanding. They can form a stealthy pair of strike-and-fade fighters.
On the personality side, Kivan is driven to avenge his girlfriend by slaughtering bandits. Lucky for you that you're wanting to slaughter bandits too! This could be the start of a beautiful friendship ... Seriously, it's good that his story ties into the main storyline, as this makes the whole experience seem more real.
Kivan is very quiet in all situations, save one - his dealings with Viconia. He hates Vicky, and the two will definitely not get on.
Overall, I'd say that Kivan is another one of the 'must-have' NPCs for good parties. I certainly never go without him."
