Bardan says : "First off, why have Xzar when you can have Edwin? Well, you get the package deal - Montaron gets thrown in for free.
Is this enough to make me want to get Xzar over Edwin? No. Edwin is just better at everything. Xzar is not a bad character per se - it's just that Edwin is so much better. The only reason to have Xzar is to back up Edwin by using Divination spells such as 'Detect Illusion'. You really shouldn't be using Xzar as your main mage if you're an evil party. Or any other party, for that matter. I would only take him along if I loved his insane chatter, which I don't. some of it is rather amusing, though (especially the quote "I am become death... destroyer of worlds!). Still, I wouldn't call Xzar an atom bomb. more like a damp squib.
Edwin's brilliance has left Xzar as a sad backup option, and there his story ends."
