Description

Sorcerers are practitioners of magic who were born with the innate ability to cast spells. It is thought that the blood of some powerful creature flows through their veins; perhaps they are the spawn of the gods themselves, or even dragons walking in humanoid form. Regardless, the Sorcerer's magic is intuitive rather than logical. They know fewer spells than wizards, and acquire spells more slowly, but they can cast spells more often and have no need to select and prepare spells ahead of time. Sorcerers cannot specialize in magic the way wizards do. Other than these differences, a Sorcerer is very similar to the wizard.

Advantages:
- Spellcasting without memorisation

Disadvantages:
- Low Hitpoints

Opinions

Bardan says : Of all the classes, this is probably the strongest. The Sorcerer does not learn spells from scrolls, or need to memorise them as amges do. Rather, he gains his limited selection of spells as he levels up, and casts them on a casting-level-per-day basis. For example, a sorcerer may be able to cast 6 1st-level spells per day. At any time, he can choose to cast any of his currently known level 1 spells, until he has done this 6 times. He learns less spells than a Mage, but gets to use them more, and without preparation. Truly the spellcasting powerhouse of BG2, the sorcerer cannot be missed. If you are desperate for an in-game sorcerer, go and download Kelsey. It is one of the best BG2 MODs out there, and is professionally done. The forums have good tech support, so really there is nothing stopping you. Go get him!!

Sir Exxon says : IMHO, the Sorcerer is far better than the regular Mage. Why? Mainly because of their Arcane spell-system. You see, unlike the Mage, the Sorcerer don’t learn Magic from scrolls, the Magic comes to them like an innate ability. At every level-up, you can choose from all Mage-spells, except the Wild Mage-only. In other words, they are true spellcasters, not someone who studies hard to gain it.
This spell-system makes the Sorcerer much more flexible. Some spell-scrolls, especially the higher level, are very hard to find. As a Sorcerer, that won’t be a problem.
The only thing I really dislike about Sorcerers, is that thy can’t dual. But that really isn’t a big setback, because with their spellcasting-abilities, they can cast for both Rogues and Warriors.

Stats are not hard at all for the Sorcerer. On a good roll, somewhat like this would the best opportunity:
10 Str
16 Dex
14 Con
17 Int
14 Wis
17 Cha
According to true AD&D, the Sorcerers gain spells after how Charismatic they are. This is why I choose to have both a high Intelligence and Charisma. Strength is relatively unimportant, as I assume you will keep your Sorcerer outside melee combat. Dexterity and Constitution should be somewhat decent, as it is always important with much HP and a high AC.

Weapon proficiencies are really not important. I usually use:
* Quarterstaff
* Sling
All Wizards looks cooler with a Staff in their hand. And we also have the uber-good Staff of the Magi. Sling is because the only weapon you will really need is a ranged one. And IMO, the Sling then is the best.

Selection of spells is always important. Here I direct you to The Solo Sorcerer Recommended Spell List and The Party Sorcerer Recommended Spell List
This is at least how I prefer the Sorcerer. Enjoy!

Kuroneko says : Sorcerer is the coolest. Try solo with it and get the staff of Magi. Once you get it, you can stay invisible all day long.. attack and turn invisible. Having additional party members become a pain.
