Bardan says : This is a fantastic Thief Kit. Sure, you give up the backstab, but get weapon specialisation, bonuses to AC, THAC0 and Damage, advanced Dual Weilding. Superb. A backstab is one critical strike, but the SwashBuckler can deliver hard hitting swpies with his weapons with every swing. Highly, highly recommended. However, this would be only for people looking for pure thieves, otherwise you would probably be better off going for a dual-class Kensai-Thief, and keeping the backstab. It's up to you!

NamelessOne says : This has been my favourite class in the BG series. At first the lack of backstabbing was a real turnoff for me but, like Bardan said, who needs it when you deal out good damage anyway? They are brilliant fighters, and when it takes you half the experience to level up that a fighter would take it makes for powerful character quite quickly. They can be turned to tanks easily and they have all the vital skills of a regular thief so that you wont need to drag someone else along who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag just so you can loot all those pretty chests and not have your legs blown off when Minsc trips a trap wire.
If you're going to pick one of these as your class make sure to put a fair amount of points into strength and constitution so you can be useful in Melee, and try to max out your dexterity for those precious AC bonuses. I'd usually put proficiencies into Katana, sure there's not many good ones, but the Celestial Fury will turn almost any creature into parapalegic gibberling.
