Where he is

Edwin can be found in the Shadow Thieves' lair in the Docks District

Biography

When asked about how he came to be in the employ of the Shadow Thieves, Edwin sneers that it is none of your business. In his opinion you are lucky enough to have encountered him at all, and further inquiries beyond this initial boon will only serve to tempt the fates. Despite his obstinate nature, there is a hint that his present circumstance is not all that favorable, and his willingness to join with you contradicts his supposed distaste for the company of others. Edwin ignores speculation about his recent past, but he does appear to have placed less emphasis on the Red Wizard colors he has so brazenly displayed in the past. It is an understandable act for a wizard traveler in mage-fearing Amn.

Special

Edwin has his own quest - The Nether Scroll Quest that he will tell you about if you enter the graveyard. I'll only tell you that it involves ... a woman.

Bardan says, "Unless you have Kelsey, Edwin is the best mage in the game. even then, it is a close call. He gets bonus spells due to being a conjurer, and also his unremoveable magic amulet. This means he has 3 spells more per level to cast than a vanilla mage. This makes him truly devestating. True, he can't learn divination spells, but one of your backup casters should be able to handle this. His Hitpoints aren't bad for a Wizard, but his strength is low.

Give him some darts and a staff and keep him well in the back is the way to play Edwin. It has been said (and I tend to agree) that Edwin can handle almost all of the magic you will ever need in ToB all on his own. Slap The Robe of Vecna on him, Staff of the Magi, Crimson Dart, Belt of Inertial Barrier, and keep him away from enemies with missile weapons, and you've got yourself one of the most powerful NPCs in the game. That is, of course, if you don't mind him thinking that he is smarter than you, and commenting on it endlessly."
