Where she is

Valygar is hiding in his home in the Umar Hills

Biography

When asked about his past, Valygar is silent for a long time and his face becomes grim. He explains briefly that he is the last of the Corthala noble line, a family that was once one of the wealthiest in Amn. The Corthalas have always been cursed with magical ability, however, and Valygar spits the words with great derision. Every Corthala who has used their magical talents has become obsessed with them and ultimately come to a grievous end. His mother was the most recent victim, although the ranger does not elaborate on the point. Valygar intends to fulfill his family's oath to find and destroy their ancestor, Lavok, and then he intends to let his cursed bloodline die out once and for all.

Special

Valygar has his own quest (Planar Sphere). Wizards and Sorcerers should complete this quest.

Bardan says, "Valygar doesn't say much, but don't let this fool you - he is a great NPC. His stats are fairly good (give him some strength buff item, though), and his stalker class offers lots of bonuses (free 2* in dual-weilding!). You have 2 options - you can use Valygar as a pure melee option, dual-weilding your weapons of choice, which will probably be katanas. His own magical katana is a decent blade to start off with, but upgrade to the Celestial Fury for his main hand as quick as possible. Since he's limited to leather armour, you may want to give him the Shadow Dragon Scale, and buff him with AC enhancing items. His own version of the haste spell will really help you here.

Alternatively, you could have Valygar as a backstabber/archer. This is the approach I prefer. You can put some points in single weapon style. this means that when weilding your single katana (Celestial Fury), the AC bonus helps him out. As a ranger, he has 3 weapon quickslots. Fill these with a backstabbing weapon, a high-damage weapon, and a longbow. You may want to give him a strength-enhancer to enable him to equip the Ripper +2, and the boots fo speed if you want to do strike and run tactics. Give him a high-damage weapon like The Impaler spear, too. He'll be unstoppable, whether in fade-and-strike rushes, ranged attacks, or backstab-melee tactics.

Valygar in the game is very quiet, but will not get on with Edwin or Viconia. he likes the moral path, and is a great addition to any good-aligned team.

Wizards especially should complete the Planar Sphere quest. It reaps great rewards."
